Swim Pool Announcement

Posted: April 9, 2021

Registration for the 2021 Swim Pool Season for Streeter Pool and Ginty Pool is now on wait list status. Due to reduced attendance capacity limits (50%) set by the New Jersey Department of Health, and the Township’s concern for the health and safety of our members, we are currently limiting available memberships for the 2021 season.

We are hopeful that as the Covid-19 pandemic is further curtailed in 2021 we will be able to return to normal pool membership levels as the swim season approaches.

The waiting list is open to both returning and new pool membership applicants.

If you are a prior member of the swim pools or have registered for Morris Township Parks and Recreation programs in the past, please enter into your existing Community Pass Account to proceed to register for the waiting list.  Please do not set up a duplicate account.   If you need assistance in accessing your account, please contact the office at 973-326-7371.

If you are a new registrant for the Morris Township Swim Pools you may use your existing Community Pass account from another agency to be added to the wait list.  If you have never had a Community Pass account, you must create a new account to begin the registration for the wait list.

2020 was a particularly problematic year for our township pools. When we finally were allowed to open, it was only at 50% membership capacity and those guidelines are still in place (for now). We are hopeful to be allowed to offer significantly more memberships than 50%, but we simply don't know yet. This capacity limit was established by the State to ensure the health and safety of our members. We are making difficult decisions but safety is our priority and we have to follow the guidelines from the State until we can increase capacity safely.

With that in mind, our problem is we cannot sustain or offer membership, at this time, to all the people who want to join the pools in 2021. We are already oversubscribing membership to the pools. As is a customary practice, we are offering memberships to the returning 2020 members. These members paid their dues early in 2020 before we had to limit capacities. Unfilled memberships will then be offered to 2019 members as they, for this year only, will be considered returning members. Once we reach allowed capacity a waiting list will be created for returning members.  The registration portal will also then open for Township residents who were not members in 2019 or 2020 to be placed on the waitlist.  Only after we have exhausted interested Morris Twp. new memberships will there be new memberships offered to people from outside the township. Without an allowed increase to 100% capacity, it's unlikely we'll be able to process any new memberships.

If we are allowed 100% capacity there may not be a need for a wait-list. Demand is historically high for our township pools and we expect the 2021 season to be no different.  COVID19 restrictions aside, there are still only a limited number of memberships available for our pools each year, even in the best of times.

We realize this is not what everyone is hoping for, but hopefully, this explanation helps ease the pain a bit.

As you might imagine, we've received a lot of feedback from the community on this matter. We all share in the frustrations and are sympathetic to residents' concerns.
